Troy Volleyball, League Champions
TROY — 10/20/2026
Troy High School volleyball beat Troy Athens in five sets Thursday, Oct. 15, coming back from 14-11 down in the deciding set, to win the Oakland Activities Association White division title, coach Scott Germansky said. Last season Troy won one best-of-five match, according to MaxPreps. This season it has beaten all eight of its OAA-White opponents and has not lost a best-of-five match.

After last season
A year ago, Troy won one best-of-five match all season, 3-2 over Rochester Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, according to MaxPreps. Coach Scott Germansky recalls a team that did not win until the end of the season, and players who heard their record called out to them in the halls. That record did not reflect what the team could do, he said, and in scrimmages the players began to see they could turn things around.
The staff set out to reignite their confidence, telling them they had always had the talent and that a new start was what they needed. It became a player-led team, with eight seniors leading the way, and the goal was the league title.
Troy's first best-of-five match came at home Thursday, Sept. 10, against North Farmington. Troy swept it, taking the last set 25-2, and the message to the players was that they were not done, just getting started. A sweep at West Bloomfield followed Tuesday, Sept. 15, and the OAA-White schedule began two days later.
The tournaments were harder. Troy is 13-15 overall, and all 15 losses came in tournament play, most of them early in the season against what the coach called top talent. In best-of-five matches it has won all 10.

Five sets at Athens
Troy had already beaten Athens once, in two sets at home Saturday, Oct. 10, a win the coach said showed the players they could do it. Five days later, Thursday, Oct. 15, the teams met again at Athens for the OAA-White championship, in a gym he described as packed.
Troy dropped the first set 17-25, took the second 27-25 and lost the third 29-31, a score he said a set hardly ever reaches, before winning the fourth 25-20 to force a fifth.
Athens seemed in control of that one, leading 8-3 and then 14-11, one point from the match. Troy needed the next five points, a run the coach put at a 3.125% chance. Senior Maya Colon served aggressively, at the risk of serving out or into the net, and put Athens out of system. Senior outside hitter Kyleigh Peacock had three kills in those last five points. Troy scored all five to win the match and the league title.

Shoutouts
Germansky singled out six players. The numbers are from the title match at Athens.
- Kyleigh Peacock, a senior outside hitter, had 16 kills, three of them in Troy's last five points.
- Maya Colon, a senior right side and defensive specialist, had 28 digs and one error in 24 serves, and led Troy's comebacks from the service line in the second and fifth sets.
- Maci Zeiter, a junior outside hitter, had 13 kills and her best serve-receive percentage of the season.
- Lyla Gorny, a senior middle blocker, had a match-high five blocks; the coach called her a dominant force in the middle.
- Megan Hom and Maia Abbott, senior setters, are the quarterbacks of the court, the coach said, running the offense night in and night out.
Germansky said he is thankful to his assistant coaches, Shaleene Mayo, a Central Michigan Hall of Fame setter, and Claudio Arato, an outside hitter and defensive specialist at Rochester Christian University, who have been a tremendous help coaching the position groups all season.

1. The season game list labels the Berkley, Avondale and Groves matches nonleague and counts an Aug. 31 tournament loss to Macomb Lutheran North as a league match, so the OAA-White table compiled from it, which is not an official league table, shows Troy 5-1.
