While the match began competitively, the first half ended in a 1-1 draw. Troy eventually pulled ahead in the second half to secure the win. The top-ranked Troy Colts defeated the eighth-ranked Birmingham Seaholm Maples 4-2 to win the D1 district championship. After a competitive first half that ended in a 1-1 tie, Troy scored two quick goals early in the second half to take a commanding lead. Although Seaholm managed to cut the deficit to one goal via a long free kick, Connor Hotts scored a final insurance goal to seal the victory. Troy's success was attributed to their efficiency, scoring four goals on nine shots on frame. This win marks Troy's third consecutive district title and maintains their unbeaten record at 15-0-2. The Colts will now advance to the regional semifinals to face Warren Cousino.

The Troy School District celebrated the grand opening of the new Smith Middle School on October 12. The 120,000-square-foot facility was funded by a $555 million bond, with construction costs estimated at $70 million. Designed for approximately 900 students, the school features six learning communities to provide a more personalized educational environment. The building also includes flexible furniture, natural lighting, and advanced safety technology for crisis management and lockdowns. While the new school is operational, the old Smith Middle School building will temporarily house Boulan Park and Larson Middle School students during their respective renovations. Once those projects are complete, the old building will be demolished to make way for a football field and track.

The Ridgedale Players’ junior actors will perform “The Big One-Oh, Jr.” on October 16-18 and October 23-25 at 205 W. Long Lake Road. Based on a book by Dean Pitchford, the musical follows Charley Maplewood, a horror comic fan who struggles to make real-life friends while dealing with his parents' divorce. To celebrate his 10th birthday, Charley attempts to throw a horror-themed party with the help of his imaginary monster friends. Director Kelley Donnelly describes the production as a story about family and the challenges of growing up. The young cast includes Taylor Fiebig as Alien, Maria Xydas as Charley's sister Lorena, and Emelia Risdale as Jennifer Mobley. Troy police lieutenant Josh Bowers, a 37-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. After experiencing headaches and confusion, Bowers underwent surgery at Corewell Health and is currently recovering at home. A dedicated public servant, Bowers previously served as an Army captain and has held multiple roles within the Troy police department. He is survived by his wife, Meghan, and their three children. To support the family during this time, colleagues from the Michigan Department of Corrections have organized an online fundraiser to help ease financial burdens. Additionally, community members are encouraged to donate meals and household items to the family.

Robert Isho, a 34-year-old Troy man, has been charged with reckless driving causing death following a fatal multi-vehicle crash in Bloomfield Township. Prosecutors allege that Isho ran a red light while speeding on May 30, striking a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Obrian Nelson, who died at the scene. A second vehicle was involved, though its driver was not injured. During a recent hearing, Judge Diane D’Agostini increased Isho's bond from $25,000 to $100,000, which the defendant has since posted. Additionally, the court has ordered a competency evaluation to determine if Isho is mentally capable of assisting in his own defense. If convicted, Isho faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

The Madison Heights Women’s Club (MHWC) has announced its fall fundraiser, the "Be-Dazzling Bling Fling," taking place Sunday, Nov. 8, from 1-4 p.m. at the Clawson/Troy Elks Club. General admission tickets are $25 and include lunch, dessert, and access to an auction. Guests are encouraged to bring a wrapped, new or gently used "dazzling item" to be auctioned off during the event. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support nearly 40 different charities, including local scholarships, food pantries, and organizations aiding veterans and domestic violence survivors. The MHWC, which was formed in 1977, is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and focuses on community service and sisterhood. New members are welcome to join the group by attending their monthly meetings at Madison Heights Fire Station No. 1.

Northville won its third consecutive D1 girls golf state title at Bedford Valley, edging out runner-up Macomb Dakota. In the D2 division, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central secured its first program title with a dominant 45-stroke lead over South Lyon. Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian took the D3 team championship, while Detroit Country Day's Halle Heineman claimed the individual D3 title with a score of 158.
