Athens drops to 0-2 after 49-17 loss to Oxford

TROY — Troy Athens is still looking for its first win of the season after Oxford handled the Red Hawks 49-17 at Athens on Thursday night.
Athens found the end zone twice, both times in the third quarter. Jack Bouren caught a touchdown pass, and Macklin Ciurla broke off a 54-yard touchdown run.

A difficult opening stretch
The Red Hawks opened the season Aug. 27 at home against Waterford Mott and lost 27-19, a game they stayed in throughout. Thursday was a different story. Through two games Athens has scored 36 points and allowed 76.
Oxford came in off a 28-0 shutout at Hartland and is now 2-0. The Wildcats have given up seven points in two games.
What's next
Athens travels to Clarkston on Friday, Sept. 11. The Wolves are also 2-0, most recently beating Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 14-7 on the same night Athens hosted Oxford.
After that, the Red Hawks stay on the road for the crosstown game at Troy on Sept. 18 before returning home to face Stoney Creek on Sept. 25.
