Community rallies around Troy police lieutenant battling cancer - The Oakland Press
The Oakland Press — 10/21/2026
Troy police lieutenant Josh Bowers, a 37-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. After experiencing headaches and confusion, Bowers underwent surgery at Corewell Health and is currently recovering at home. A dedicated public servant, Bowers previously served as an Army captain and has held multiple roles within the Troy police department. He is survived by his wife, Meghan, and their three children. To support the family during this time, colleagues from the Michigan Department of Corrections have organized an online fundraiser to help ease financial burdens. Additionally, community members are encouraged to donate meals and household items to the family.
